Situated in the heart of Perth Cultural Centre, the State Library of Western Australia is a vibrant public space that offers lots of cool things to see and do for people of all ages.
The ground floor is a popular spot for people wanting a quiet sheltered place to read and go online. If you have your own mobile device, free Wifi is available. Otherwise, the library also provides free use of their computers.
There's also a small gallery space on the ground floor where regular exhibitions are held and free movies and documentaries are shown. The Western Australian Writer's Centre is also located here, as well as a cafe and a well stocked second-hand book shop.
Upstairs, the research library has several floors of books, journals and other resources on every conceivable subject. There are also plenty of desks for quiet research, a dedicated WACE study space and much, much more.
Just for young families, on the library's mezzanine level there's an awesome children's literacy area called The Place. There are lots of books for children of all ages, and plenty of other activities - especially for preschool aged children. These include a weekly Baby Rhyme Time, Big Stories for Little People and an International Storytime Series. There is always something fun happening there during the school holidays - usually free of charge.
Directions The State Library of Western Australia is very easy to reach by both private and public transport. For drivers, there are plenty of car-parks close by. The railway station is just a short walk away, on the other side of the Cultural Centre, and the closest bus-stop is on nearby Beaufort Street, next to the Western Australian Museum.
