Situated in suburban Kewdale, Tomato Lake Reserve is a tranquil oasis that's the perfect spot to connect with nature when you're feeling tired and frazzled. As its name indicates, the main feature of this park is a beautiful lake and wetlands, surrounded by a small pocket of bushland and lawns. These attract many native birds and other wildlife, and a walking trail that encircles the lake enables you to observe them in their natural environment.
For the youngsters there's a terrific playground, with plenty of seating nearby for the grown-ups. There are also picnic tables and barbecues, so it's a great place to come to for a family picnic. Finally, there's also a small cafe that's open Wednesday to Sunday, where you can eat in or get a takeaway snack.
In moderate traffic, Tomato Lake Reserve is approximately fifteen minutes drive from Perth's CBD, and there is plenty of parking available. If you're using public transport, catch bus number 39 from the Esplanade Busport, and get off at stop 11288 - at Oats Street, after Armadale Road.
